THE CHALLENGE

Over a period of years the IT infrastructure of the company had grown and was not adequately recorded or handled. Reliance on ROCOCO had grown, and the company was worried about the loss of essential business function in the event of a disaster.

The company chose to use internal tools to carry out the project, but used ROCOCO for support and mentoring. A thorough business continuity planning analysis was required.

THE APPROACH

We originally decided to work closely with our client on their most likely catastrophe scenarios.

To do this, we consulted key team members to provide a detailed summary of the automated and manual processes in use, the state of current IT systems and the number of workers and their duties.

We defined the minimum business requirements for each catastrophe scenario in consultation with the departmental heads of the organization, and produced a comprehensive document on the recovery requirements.

With this information, we identified and recorded a suitable set of IT plans and procedures that would be followed in the event of a disaster. Upon activation of the business continuity plan, we also recorded the process for restoring the company to normal, as well as setting out the method the client will use to initiate, update and check the plan.

We conducted design checks for rehearsals and all processes to ensure they were reliable, resilient and tailored to the initial brief of the company.


THE OUTCOMES

Business continuity of the organization and arrangements and procedures for disaster recovery have been changed and made acceptable to their revised circumstances. The plans were structured so that the customer could manage, invoke and test them without resorting to external resources.
